Alex brings a wide range of professional, academic, and personal experience to Alternatives in Treatment, including backgrounds in the treatment of substance abuse, serious mental illness, and co-occurring disorders. Alex began his career in the field of substance abuse treatment while working at a community-based non-profit supporting individuals seeking recovery from addiction. Alex utilizes his backgrounds in philosophy and clinical social work to inform an integrative mode of treatment that concentrates on the development of individual strengths, values, and freedom in the process of recovery.

After completing his B.A. in Philosophy from George Mason University, Alex began working as a vocational counselor supporting individuals with serious mental illness. Following this, Alex went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a Clinical concentration, while also completing clinical internships, and most recently working as a therapist in a community-based mental health clinic.

Alex has received recognition for his efforts in the field of Social Work practice, and was named “Outstanding MSW” by the George Mason University Department of Social Work in both 2013 and 2014. In addition, Alex is a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society and has acted as an advocate for Collegiate Recovery efforts.
