Primary Therapist
Signe M. Kastberg brings 30 years of experience in the field to Alternatives in Treatment. As Primary Therapist, she provides counseling through individual and group sessions, helping clients to address obstacles to recovery and develop adaptive strategies for healthy living. Signe determines which therapeutic techniques to utilize depending on the needs and strengths of each client. She often practices Person-Centered and Existential approaches, as well as various cognitive therapies. She finds that the Transtheoretical Model of Change and Motivational Interviewing strategies are essential in helping clients struggling with issues of addiction and substance abuse.

I believe that all individuals are capable of change, but only some will choose to change.

Signe’s extensive experience comes from many years of teaching counseling at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as counseling in private practice, college and university settings, and at an urban mental health center serving indigent populations. She has also previously held the position of director of continuing education at a university for 12 years.

Signe earned a Bachelors degree in English Literature from Skidmore College, a Master’s degree in Education from Harvard, and a PhD in Human Development from the University of Rochester. She grew up in Schuylerville, New York, and currently resides in Boynton Beach, Florida.
