Inpatient Rehab Process

Understand the process of inpatient rehab, from checking in to a lifetime of recovery.

Inpatient Rehab- By the Numbers

23.5 Million people need help for addiction

2.6 Million people received the help they needed

Of the 23.5 Million people identified in 2009 as needing help for a substance abuse problem, only 2.6 Million (11.2%) received the help they needed at a substance abuse treatment center.

Between 2005 and 2011, one-third of the 341,741 individuals treated in inpatient care had successfully maintained sobriety.

Successful inpatient rehabs treat individuals based on their needs rather than using a cookie-cutter approach.

The Inpatient Rehab Process

Admissions- Upon arrival, clients meet with an intake counselor who is experienced in assessments. Intake counselors provide an orientation to the program and walk clients through the admissions process.

Individualized Treatment Plan- After the intake process and admission, the person entering rehab will see medical staff members who assess physical and mental health. This step is important to the development of an individualized treatment plan.

Detoxification- The detoxification process is vital to getting drugs or alcohol out of the client’s system while helping them safely through withdrawal. Throughout detox, the client will be supervised by medical staff members to ensure they’re as comfortable as possible.

Counseling- During residential treatment, there are various types of counseling sessions individuals can participate in. As part of a daily schedule, clients may attend small and large group sessions, as well as individual counseling sessions.

Family Programs- Family members are important in the treatment process; not only do they influence the person seeking recovery, but they’re also influenced and affected by his or her substance abuse. Most inpatient treatment facilities offer family programs to help loved ones deal with the effects of substance abuse in their family.

Transition Preparation- Long before an individual is scheduled to complete inpatient rehab, he or she will begin working with counselors and other staff members toward a smooth transition back to life outside of inpatient treatment.

Aftercare- Clients who complete inpatient treatment are provided an aftercare plan. This plan includes individualized recommendations for continuing care after inpatient treatment.

Improving Chances for Success

In addition to self-care, the building of a strong, positive support network is vital to successful treatment and long-term sobriety.
