Alternatives treatment philosophy is based on the medical model of addiction as a disease, where the patient is treated physically, psychologically and spiritually, in a private, non-institutional setting. The Alternatives in Treatment philosophy is to offer an excellent therapist-patient ratio, in a confidential, supportive and respectful environment. The center implements highly structured, individually designed clinical programs, within a framework of process, educational and relapse prevention groups. In addition, twelve-step meeting attendance is an important component of treatment and patients will be encouraged to participate in the appropriate group – AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), NA (Narcotics Anonymous) and others, when indicated.
Many patients present for addiction treatment with a co-occurring diagnosis of depression, bi-polar disorder, anxiety disorder, or ADD/ADHD. Dr. Robert Steinberg, the Alternatives In Treatment Medical Director is a Board Certified Psychiatrist with many years of experience treating these disorders. Additionally, our clinical staff is also trained to help these patients in the development of effective treatment plans to address those same issues.
Additionally, we are one of the premiere specialists in trauma work. Therapists conduct a healing group, using experiential therapy so that clients can get to the nature of the pain that may be directing them to use. They are then referred to trauma specialists for follow-up care when they complete treatment.
