Impulsive Behavior

Why Detoxification is Needed

Frequently, when a client has been abusing a substance such as alcohol, an opioid, a benzodiazepine, and/or other prescription medication, the client requires medically monitored detoxification or “detox”.

The admissions team at Alternatives in Treatment is able to coordinate a client’s admission to one of several detox facilities or hospitals, all of whom work closely with Alternatives in Treatment and share our belief in quality, ethical services with utmost consideration for the client.

Medical Monitoring

We will monitor a client’s progress while in detox and coordinate a smooth transition to Alternatives in Treatment upon discharge. We will often arrange for one our staff to meet with the client while at the detox facility to prepare them for the move to Alternatives in Treatment.

Addiction Recovery Programs & Process

After detox, our individualized addiction recovery programs provide a variety of choices to effectively treat the person seeking help. Drug and alcohol treatment plans are customized to address each client’s recovery needs.

If you or a loved one is admitted for a chemical dependency or a co-occurring disorder such a depression or anxiety, you will have access to these recovery programs during the addiction recovery process:

  • Short-term Primary Treatment
  • Partial Hospitalization
  • Extended Care
  • Intensive Outpatient Program
  • Day and Evening Programs
  • Relapse Program
  • Family Program

The level of care and length of stay are determined by the needs of the client. Our psychiatric and psychological consultants are closely involved throughout each client’s addiction recovery process. Individualized treatment planning has been shown to improve the outcome of treatment.

Help for impaired professionals

In addition to being available to the general public, Alternatives also addresses the needs of impaired professionals-physicians, nurses, attorneys, pilots and other license subgroups, many of whom have been helped to reverse the cycle of addiction in their lives in a setting of caring confidentiality, to return, in quality recovery, to their respective professions. Alternatives works closely with many organizations such as:

  • UAW
  • Physicians’ Recovery Network (PRN)
  • Intervention Program for Nurses (IPN)
  • Florida Bar

Alternatives cooperates fully with all professional and legal requirements and is regulated by Federal Confidentiality Guidelines.
