WHAT HAPPENS DURING OUR ADDICTION TREATMENT PROGRAMS
At Alternatives, a residential drug rehab and alcohol treatment center, clients are on a structured schedule, Monday through Friday, 8:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Because addiction is a family disease, our addiction treatment programs include a family therapy day on Saturday, where the family/significant others of the patient (if they are available) can receive therapy and education about the disease and how it relates to them. In rehabilitation treatment, the patient is educated in the nature and progression of the disease of addiction, while concurrently, in the group therapy process, therapists will help him/her to examine the individual belief systems/thought processes supporting the addictive system, planning intervention strategies which promote recovery and prevent relapse. Upon discharge from one of our addiction treatment programs, at no additional cost, the patient may attend aftercare one night a week at the center, where the graduates discuss issues relevant to their recovery, receiving support for the inevitable difficulties encountered while building a new life in recovery.
While in Primary Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment, patients stay in two bedroom garden apartments with pool, where 24 hr. per day house managers monitor activities and are available for milieu therapy, to manage schedules and provide transportation to stores and nightly 12-step meetings. All weekend recreation is supervised and includes group outings to the beach, parks and other relaxing destinations.
OUTPATIENT ADDICTION TREATMENT PROGRAMS
At Alternatives, there are also excellent outpatient addiction treatment programs available, incorporating the elements of residential treatment on a schedule manageable for those with work and family obligations. The Partial Hospitalization Program is five days a week for four weeks. PHP is an option for both new admissions who meet the criteria for it, as well as for patients transitioning from Primary Residential treatment that will benefit from its continued structure. Patients participating in this program will be under the care of our Medical Director, if they require medication management.
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is another option. These programs meet three days a week for eight weeks. Alternatives offers four separate IOP tracts: two are specifically for women, one is specifically for men, and one is a mixed-gender tract. Frequently, patients can transition from a higher level of care to IOP as part of their treatment plan. However, it is an option for new patients that don’t meet the criteria for Primary Residential treatment or PHP, as well as those that have family, educational, or career obligations.
